Welcome to DAA Boy's Basketball We hope the information provided below will help you develop a greater knowledge of, and appreciation for, the sport of basketball. The DAA basketball program promotes fair play, good sportsmanship, skills and fun for players ages 8 through 15. The boys’ teams are registered in the Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks Basketball League. Important Dates
Age
Groups To play county basketball during the 2007/2008 season, your son must be 8 years old by 12/01/2007. Teams are grouped by age and skill levels through a Skills Evaluation process. The age group for your son is based on his birthday as of September 1 of this year. Please be advised that players are not allowed to play down in younger age groups, nor are they allowed to play on two (2) different County teams. Additionally, if your son is playing basketball for a team in a high school scholastic level, he is not allowed to play in the County leagues. The County age groups that DAA offers for this season are: 8/9 (9U), 10/11 (11U), 12/13 (13U) and 14/15 (15U). Boys younger than age 8 should register for Clinic Basketball. The County also has A, B, C, and D Divisions, with A being the most competitive. This does not necessarily mean that DAA will have a team at each division level. The County may combine divisions if they do not receive enough registrations in a particular level. Equipment Required Your son will be required to wear a mouthguard if he wears an orthodontic appliance. A DAA county basketball uniform is also required and the cost can range from to $67.00- $70.00, depending on size. The uniforms include the player’s last name on the back of the jersey, along with the Gator insignia on the shorts. If your son has outgrown any piece of his uniform, shirts and/or shorts can be ordered separately. Warm-up suites and DAA green/white basketballs are also available for an additional cost. Uniforms must be ordered at the time of registration. The DAA basketball program does its best to group players into their appropriate skill level; consequently, it is imperative that your son attend at least one of the scheduled Skills Evaluation sessions. It is recommended that your son attend as many of the scheduled sessions as possible, though the basketball program understands that your son may have other prior commitments (i.e. other sports teams, religious education, school activities, etc.). The Skills Evaluation sessions are to be held at Central Middle School as follows:
Practices Practices are typically held twice during the week, with the possibility of one weekday practice and one weekend practice beginning in early November. Practice times and dates are subject to school events, school closures, and the like. The practice locations are usually assigned to Davidsonville Elementary School, Central Middle School, and/or South River High School, depending upon gym availability. Other gym locations may be assigned. Games Games are tentatively scheduled to start early December with the season concluding in late February/early March, depending on inclement weather and games having to be re-scheduled. Once the team schedules are completed by the County, you can access them at www.aacounty.org/recparks. The 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13 leagues will be held on Saturdays, while the 14-15 leagues will be held on Sundays. Your son will be playing his games in one gym the entire season. However, that gym could be located anywhere in the County. Tournaments TBD
