Welcome to DAA Girl's Basketball We hope the information provided below will help you develop a greater knowledge of, and appreciation for, the sport of basketball. The DAA basketball program promotes fair play, good sportsmanship, skills and fun for players ages 8 through 17. The girls’ teams are registered in the Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks Basketball League. Important Dates
Age Groups To play county basketball during the 2007/2008 season, your daughter must be 8 years old by 12/31/2007. Teams are grouped not only by age levels, but also according to skill. The following are changes that have been made by the county on where your daughter may play based on her age: 8/9 Age Group - 9/97 - 12/99, 10/11 Age Group - 9/95-8/97, 12/13 Age Group - 9/93-8-95, 14/15 Age Group - 9/91-8-93, 16/17 Age Group - 12/89-8/91 PLEASE NOTE THESE CHANGES. Please be advised that girls are never allowed to play in a younger age group, nor are they allowed to play on two teams. Additionally, if your daughter is playing basketball in a high school scholastic level, she may not play in the County leagues. The age groups for the 2007/2008 season are: 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15 and 16-17. The County also has divisions A, B, C and D; A division being the most competitive. However, at times the county may combine divisions if they do not receive enough registrations in a particular level. Equipment Required Your daughter will be required to wear a mouth guard if she wears an orthodontic appliance. A DAA county basketball uniform is also required and the cost is $67.00- $70.00, depending on size. The uniforms include the player’s last name on the back of the jersey, along with the gator insignia on the shorts. You must order your uniform by October 20, 2007 for the last name to be on jersey. If your daughter has outgrown any piece of her uniform, shirts and/or
shorts can be ordered separately. Warm-up
suites and DAA green/white basketballs are also available for an additional
cost. Uniforms must be ordered at
the time of registration. DAA basketball program does its best to group players in their appropriate skill level; consequently, it is imperative that your daughter attend skills evaluation night(s). It is imperative that your daughter wear her DAA County uniform from last season for two reasons. First, and most important, not only that she can find it but to make sure it still fits; for this will be the last opportunity to order your uniform on-line. Second, uniform numbers need to be verified to check for duplication in a particular age group. If your daughter did not play DAA County basketball last year, please have her wear a uniform with a number on the back for evaluation purposes. If your daughter is 14 or older and intends on trying out for the high school but does not make the team and then plans on playing in DAA County basketball, please let me know of your intentions before try-outs because practice times/coaches and team placement will need to be made prior to final cuts at the high school. The evaluations are at Central Middle School and the times are as follows:
Practices Practices will be held twice during the week, with a possibility of one week day and one week-end at Davidsonville Elementary, Central Elementary, Central Middle or South River High School, starting in early November. Games Games for 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13 are tentatively scheduled to start the first week of December 2007, with the season concluding in late February/early March, depending on inclement weather and games having to be re-scheduled. Once the team schedules are completed by the County, you can access them by e-mail at www.aacounty.org/recparks. The 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13 leagues will be held on Saturdays, while the 14-15 and 16-17 leagues will be held on Sundays. Your daughter will be playing her games in one gym the entire season. However, that gym could be located anywhere in the County. Tournaments The County is also sponsoring a December Madness Youth Basketball Tournament in late December. All of our County Teams registered in the A & B levels will be eligible; however, it will be contingent upon your daughter’s coach to enter the team. The cost of this tournament will be an additional fee of $100 per team + Referee fees. Registration
