South River Gator's Cheerleading

Registration 2008 Season (Fall)

On-Line Registration - Open

Registration Fee: $80 (birth certificates are required)

We must have sizes of shoes, briefs and crop tops ahead of time in order for Modell's to have the proper stock available in time for our Team Weeks this summer. (Please give us your best guess as to what size your daughter will be in the Fall.)  Please make sure you give us that information so that we do not have to track it down and then run into the possibility of Modell's not having enough supply to accommodate us.

When registering on-line go to "Do I Need A Uniform?" and enter your information accordingly.

Uniforms are borrowed for the season.  You must purchase a hair ribbon and poms if you do not already have them.  Crop Top, Briefs, Shoes and Socks must be purchased from Modell's during our Team Weeks later this summer (dates TBD), but you must give us your sizes of those items in order for your registration to be complete.

Age Groups

South River Gators Cheerleading is for girl's ages 5 to 16 years old.  This program has been designed for girls with or without any cheering or tumbling experience.  We want every cheerleader to have a fun and rewarding experience and hopefully help build their confidence and self-esteem.

There are two parts to our program:  Sideline Cheering and Competitive Cheering.   While every girl will participate in sideline cheering, the competitive cheering is an option.  We do encourage all of our girls to take part in competing because it is a big part of our program; we will try to attend three competitions this season.  While competitions are a lot of fun, practicing and preparing for them is a lot of hard work and therefore requires a serious commitment from both the parent and the cheerleader.  If your schedule does not permit attendance at all mandatory practices then the choice of sideline cheering only would be the better option for you.  We are not able to practice difficult mounts and stunts without all cheerleaders present and switching girls around or not practicing a stunt frequently enough often results in injuries.  It is important that our cheerleaders feel well prepared and confident when they perform.  Practice is the only way we can be prepared and again, if you choose to compete you are making a commitment to the team.  This needs to be decided at the time of sign-ups, so that your child can be placed on the proper squad.

Sideline Cheering Only

Squads will be made up of girls choosing to cheer only at the football games.  The ages of these squads will be determined after sign-ups.  The ages can range anywhere from 5 to 16 years old.

Practice: After the first two weeks of August, there will be one to two practices per week.

Games: To be determined, but usually on Saturday with an occasional Friday or Sunday.

Playoff games: If your child cheers for a football team that makes it to the playoffs they will be expected to cheer.  We will find this out at the end of the season.

Competition/Sideline Cheering

Squads will be made up of girls choosing to take part in competitions.  Squads will be determined after sign-ups and will depend on registration.

Practice: After the first two weeks of August, there will be two to three practices per week until school begins and will then cut back to two nights per week.  One of those nights will be held at a cheer gym, (location TBD), where we can work on tumbling, stunting and conditioning.  The cost for this will be approximately $35/month and generally runs about 3 months.  Payment, in full, will be due Monday, August 11th.  The days and times for these practices are still being negotiated at this time.

**ADDITIONAL PRACTICES MAY BE ADDED CLOSER TO COMPETITIONS IF NEEDED**

Games: To be determined, but usually on Saturday with an occasional Friday or Sunday.

Playoff games: If your child cheers for a football team that makes it to the playoffs they will be expected to cheer.  We will find this out at the end of the season.

Uniforms

We will be distributing uniforms the second week in August.  We will need a check for $150.00 to hold as a deposit.  This check will be returned at the end of the  season when the uniform is returned in good condition.

Modell's

At some point during the summer, you will need to go to Modell's and purchase the following items:  Shoes, Crop Top, Briefs and Socks.  We will be setting up a two week period with Modell's for our cheerleaders to purchase these items at a discounted rate.  (Date to be determined)  You will let them know that you are  with the South River Gators Cheerleading and you will receive 10% off all non-sale items.

You will also need to purchase a Hair Ribbon ( $9.00) and new pom pons ( $23.00) from us either on-line or during the first week of practice.

We also have several optional items that are available to you:

Heavy Warm-Up Suit w/name on front and gator logo on back
Lightweight Warm-Up Suit w/name on front and gator logo on back
Sweatshirts
Tee Shirts
Duffle Bags
Water Bottles
Lanyards

All of our clothing items come in both youth and adult sizes, but must be tried on for proper sizing.  We will have samples and can answer any questions for you at walk-in registrations.

Fundraising

All cheerleaders will be expected to participate in our fundraising efforts!  That being said, we do understand that many families would rather not take part and therefore we are asking those families to pay/donate $100.00 to cover the costs of competitions, trophies, uniforms, and all of the other many things that are not covered by the registrations fees, but help keep our program running so well.  (SIDELINE-ONLY cheerleaders are asked to pay/donate $50.00).  It is very important that all girls participate and we thank you in advance for your support!   If you may know of any businesses looking to donate money to a youth program, please send  them our way!  Being that we are a non-profit organization this is a great write off for them and it would definitely be appreciated.

Volunteers

Volunteers are always needed and very much appreciated.  There are many different ways to volunteer within our program.  We need help with many things such as Homecoming, Picture Day, Uniform Handouts, Spirit Table Coverage, Fundraising, etc.  We also like to have a parent from each squad to be the "Team Parent" and help to coordinate snack lists, phone trees, fundraising, car pools, etc. for that particular squad.  Whatever you are willing to do is greatly appreciated!

Coaching

If you are interested in coaching please let us know as soon as possible.  In order to coach you must become certified in Anne Arundel County which means you need to attend a seminar sponsored by the County for all potential coaches. (Next seminar is in August)
