SMLL Fall 2020 Baseball

Practices will begin around August 15.  The season will consist of 8 games played on Sundays, beginning the Sunday after Labor Day weekend.  8u and 10u baseball should expect one/two practices on a weekday and one on Sunday until games begin and one/two workday practices continuing until the season ends or daylight limits practice opportunities.  12u and 15u will follow the same schedule, except that there will be two practices on weekdays and one on Sunday.

Players are expected to provide their own gray baseball pants, black belt, and black socks.  SMLL will provide a hat.  A jersey will be rented from SMLL, with a $50 deposit check due upon receipt that will be returned when the jersey is returned in proper condition.

Age Requirements:

Fall baseball is intended to get players ready for the 2021 spring season.  Accordingly, players participate based on their age for the 2021 spring season.

Each year, parents and coaches “note” that their kid is say “8” during the fall and playing against older kids that are 9 and 10 years old.  This is NOT the case.  All the teams in the fall leagues use the same age ranges for their players for the upcoming spring.

Please see the age chart below:

South Maryland Little League has at the top of its mission the inclusion of ALL willing participants in spring Little League baseball.  Little League does not turn away any player, no matter their experience or current baseball skills, at any age up to 12.  However, managing fall rosters is more difficult than spring Little League since there are far fewer teams and SMLL intends to limit roster sizes to 12 or 13.  Therefore, as registration unfolds, there may be the need for waitlist players until enough players are registered to form a team.  Information concerning roster sizes and waitlists will be provided in early August.  We remain committed to providing every willing participant a place to play baseball and fortunately managed to do so last fall (and the two falls before that), but can’t predict the future until registration is underway.
